Supergirl (second series) #16
February 1984
Paul Kupperberg - writer, Carmine Infantino - breakdowns, Bob Oksner - finishes, Andy Kubert - letterer, Tom Ziuko - colorist, Julius Schwartz - editor

Ambush Bug breaks out of a prison convoy and runs into Supergirl, whom he thinks is a cruelly transformed Superman. Making a vow to renounce his criminal ways and become a super-hero, Ambush Bug takes to the streets, capturing litterers and smokers, before being returned to jail by Supergirl, when he reveals that he has figured out her secret identity.

BUG FACT: Ambush Bug shows that he can teleport other things than simply himself. The teleportation appears to be cued by machinations in his fingers, so Supergirl stops his ability by putting boxing gloves on his hands.

Action Comics #560
October 1984
Keith Giffen - plots and pencils, Robert Loren Fleming - balloons, Bob Oksner - inker, Anthony Tollin - colorist, John Costanza - letterer, Julius Schwartz - editor

As the back-up story in this issue of Action, Ambush Bug finally reveals the style of story that would become his trademark... a slapdash, manic adventure, interrupted by digressions, splash pages and goofs on DC. Ambush Bug tells his origin story to Clark Kent, who is surreptiously checking up on him. The Bug decides to open his own detective agency to create his own standing as a hero in the DC Universe.

BUG FACT: In this issue, Ambush Bug reveals that he spent some time in Arkham Asylum - presumably after the criminal events in previous stories - where he was examined by Derwood Denton. During his time in Arkham, he attempted to arrest the Joker seventeen times.
